Dip Dye Lumbar Pillow
The unique design and coloration of these pillows is produced by the rope dyeing technique, also known as jaspe or ikat, that has a deep rooted history in Guatemala. Jaspe weaving began more than 100 years ago, based on blue and white dyes made exclusively from the local indigofera plant.
Rope Dye is a very tricky process as it involves matching colors along the warp of the fabric as opposed to the weft so is more technically advanced and time consuming.
Keep out of direct sunlight to avoid possibility of any color fading.

About the Artisan Group
The indigenous Maya artisans of Guatemala who made these pillows are considered to be one of the most marginalized groups in the world. Faced with discrimiation, poverty and violence many turn to weaving as a means to provide for their families. These artisans not only are skilled in handweaving beautiful textiles but are masters of rope dyeing, locally referred to as "jaspe" but more commonly known in the U.S. as "ikat." This traditional technique, going back more than 100 years, has been revived to create lovely and evocative home accents.
